SINIACA - IDB: Injuries Data Base

European Sourveillance System on the external causes of injuries

Purpose of IDB

Injuries are an important and largely preventable health problem. The purpose of the European Injury Data Base (IDB) is to facilitate effective injury prevention policies and programs at EU- and country level. The database provides information on accidental injuries such as home accidents, sports and leisure injuries, workplace accidents and road accidents, and on injuries due to violence and self-harm. IDB data are complementary to general mortality statistics, hospital discharges statistics, and health surveys as well as to specific registers of road and workplace accidents. The currently available IDB-data are produced voluntarily by national competent agencies, under the co-ordination of the European Association for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (EuroSafe). The EU-database is hosted by the National Institute of Health in Italy (Istituto Superiore di Sanità - ISS), responsible for the central processing of the data delivered by the participating national partners. Detailed information about IDB and how the Network of national agencies works, can be found on the EuroSafe-website and its dedicated pages on the European Injury Database.
